Jefferson City, MO – Monday, May 7, 2012: In an effort to save lives, the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross strongly urge the Missouri Senate to reinstate the requirement for CPR training in House Bill 1337. This legislation would enact lifesaving change to Missouri’s education policy, ensuring that students graduating from high school statewide know how to save a life in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest emergency. While HB 1337 was passed by the Missouri House of Representatives with the CPR training requirement, this provision was unfortunately removed by a Senate committee last week.

St. Louis -- Sunday, May 6, 2012– The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team to a house fire late Saturday night in South St. Louis. Fire damaged a multi-unit home in the 2100 block of Jefferson. The Red Cross is helping an adult woman with immediate access to food and shelter.

ST. LOUIS – Saturday, April 28, 2012– The American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team to a home that had been damaged by severe weather this evening. A tree fell onto the home in the 500 block of North 29th Street in East St. Louis. The Red Cross is helping two adults with food and shelter.

St. Louis, April 23, 2012 --- The St. Louis Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is set to honor local Lifesavers at its first Lifesaver Awards Breakfast. From 10 years old to those decades older, these individuals have exhibited heroic efforts to save lives.

ST. LOUIS, April 19, 2012— Robert Whitlow, from the ST. LOUIS AREA CHAPTER of the American Red Cross, is now on the ground in Wichita, Kansas to assist in tornado relief efforts. This past weekend, an EF-3 tornado, which can bring winds of up to 165 miles per hour, damaged parts of Wichita and Oaklawn, Kansas. Whitlow, from Belleville, Illinois, is helping with transportation.

Volunteers provide emergency assistance to two adults
St. Louis, Friday, March 30, 2012– The American Red Cross Greater St. Louis Region dispatched a Disaster Action Team tonight to a fire tonight in Ferguson, Mo. Fire damaged a single family home in the 100 block of Bayview Court. The Red Cross is providing food, clothing and shoes for two adults.

Following tornadoes in Southern Illinois, the American Red Cross Greater St. Louis Region has opened fixed meal sites at the Red Cross Shelter in First Baptist Church in Harrisburg, and in Ridgeway at Golden Circle Senior Center. Currently the Red Cross has 40 volunteers on the ground in Southern Illinois, with more ready to join the relief effort. The Red Cross has sent four disaster assessment teams to the region to determine the extent of the damage.
