Lindsey Meglio of Wildwood, a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Missouri Red Cross volunteer and blood donation recipient, has received the Red Cross Biomedical Award.
She was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer affecting the lymphatic system, when she was 11 years old. After months of treatment that included a bone marrow transplant, Meglio learned that the platelets and blood transfusions received from the Red Cross helped to save her life. She and her parents agreed to assist the organization in educating the community about the need for blood and platelet donations.
Meglio has been featured in Red Cross promotional information.
