Joplin, One Year Later

One year ago, on May 22nd, the city of Joplin, Missouri was wrecked by a massive tornado that destroyed homes, schools, hospitals, and took precious lives.  Although the Joplin community was stunned by the aftermath, they did not give up hope and have rebuilt their city with the help of the Red Cross.  We salute the people of Joplin for their courage and resilience in the face of disaster.

Volunteers, supporters and staff from the Greater St. Louis Region recently visited the Joplin area, meeting with government officials, local Red Cross volunteers and staff, as well as Joplin citizens to see the recovery up close and personal. See photos from the trip on our Flickr site here.

Stay Safe in the Water

According to a Red Cross survey, more than 70 percent of Americans are planning to participate in water-related activities this summer. Almost half of parents with children, between the ages of 3 and 17, plan to enjoy the water in an area where no lifeguard will be on duty. Make sure you stay safe! Check out these Red Cross water safety resources.
